Biography - Errol Allen is a master of light and shadow whose paintings and drawings and etchings have placed him among the masters of Caribbean fine art. Born 1960 in Montego Bay, Jamaica, West Indies, Allen has devoted his life to painting, with an affection for showing lines, light and shadow and colours. His interest in art began at the age three as his early drawings demonstrated prodigious talent. At age eight he began painting using watercolour medium. Many of his early compositions were imitative realisms which captured the landscapes, seascapes and peoples in the ever-changing scenes surrounding him.
Over the years his style and application evolved. He paints using various medium and styles. Often described as an artist with many styles, Allen's passion is to paint in a manner that captures the styles of European fine art masters, like Rembrandt, Cezanne,Monet and Renoir, while adding his personal touch to his compositions. Exhibitors of Allens fine art pieces include the National Gallery of Jamaica, The Jamaican High Commission in Toronto Canada, and private Galleries in London, Africa and New Jersey. In 1999 Allen was awarded the Norman Webb Certificate of Excellence for his composition, "Children at play", at the annual outdoor fine arts exhibition, Plainfield New Jersey. In 1994 he was also featured in popular Canadian magazines "Share" and " The Contrast" for his fine art pieces produced for the annual Caribana event. That same year he was featured in the "Black" magazine in Africa as a symbol for aspiring black artists. In March 2002 Allen was commissioned by the Jamaican Government to paint a portrait of Famed ABC talk show hostess, Star Jones, which was presented to Star at a gala event in Montego Bay Jamaica at her 40th birthday celebrations.
Allen believes that his inspiration and talent comes from the devine force within the universe and that this force works through him while he paints.
