Artist's Statement -I seek to find things in this world that inspire me. Transformation of ideas found in urban culture into abstract ideas. My work seeks to build many layers of interest and semantic references to other objects. An idea is never complete yet continues to evolve in the next abstract painting. These ideas are just that, leaving a mark, a glimpse of what I see.
Biography - Born 1972
Brian Elston began studying art in structured environment at a very young age. He continued his studies at The Ohio State University where he graduated in 1995. Since that time he has exhibited his art at several galleries, participated in group shows, and done performance painting in public. The educational process is ongoing for him.
He began to learn and become more aware of composition from a professorwho studied under Roy Lichtenstein. It was several years later through studies in industrial design that he studied form from a strong Bauhaus school of thought. Today Elston's work reflects these strong influences in composition and design.
The works are created through the act of painting and constructing with a underlying sense of structure, design and form. Each work is developed through a multi-layered process of gesture, mechanical tools and mixed media.
Brian's work is highly influenced from the world around him. His senses capture architectural structures, industrial objects as well as urban design. These influences can be seen in each of his paintings.
Elston works to break rules towards traditional thoughts on painting and building innovation towards new aesthetics. Although painting is his primary focus, he also works with digital art and photography.
He currently works full-time as an artist selling his work online, in galleries, to private art dealers and corporate commissions. Elston currently lives and works in Chicago.
