Artist's Statement -Art can have a profound affect on society. It civilizes us by creating a space in our lives for introspection. Art, which is inherently contemplative, is necessary to have a balanced life in the modern world. Technology allows us to communicate more than ever before, yet people feel increasingly disconnected and estranged. Art diminishes the gap we feel between who we are and the life we are living. Art is something that has real value because it deepens each person's respect for life. A painting is a time capsule that reaches into the future as well as the present. When I see a painting hundreds of years old, I am struck by the artist’s ability to reach people today. The nature of human beings has not changed. Everyone wants to avoid suffering and look for love. The philosophy of classical art is that beauty has objective standards. Beauty is not always in the subjective eye of the beholder. As a Classical Realist I always paint from nature because it offers a myriad of choices and an infinite combination of shapes and colors. Painting from nature is about discovering beauty, discovering humanity. It allows us to explore our existence by giving body to ideas, through the undeceiving physicality of its subjects.

Biography - Dana Levin, a contemporary realism painter, began her fine art education at the young age of 14, attending the competitive fine arts summer program, Belvoir Terrace in Lenox, MA. and in high school the prestigious New World School of the Arts in Miami, Florida. She continued her studies at the prominent Art Institute of Chicago, where her achievements earned her an early graduation with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree. Seeking to enhance her artistic abilities and proficiency, Levin then moved to Italy to train under painter Daniel Graves, and learn the techniques of the European masters at the Florence Academy of Art. She completed the three-year curriculum and upon graduation was asked to join the school’s drawing and painting faculty for the next five years and is considered to be among one of their most important alumni. Levin’s search for meaningful subjects for her paintings has taken her throughout the United States, Eastern and Western Europe, the Middle East, and South America. Additionally, she has been awarded numerous prizes and scholarships from organizations, which include the Italian Cultural Institute of San Francisco, the Art Renewal Center and the John F. and Anna Lee Stacey Fund. Her work has also been published in several prestigious catalogues and magazines. The subject's mixed ancestry makes an intersting metaphor for the blending of cultures that is occuring around the globe as technology shrinks the distance between countries.
