Biography - The geometric abstractionism is an artistic movement started in Holland in 1917. The artists interpret the mystery and the order of universe and space following a rigid and strict artistic and geometric norm. As a matter of fact, Neoplastic works are characterized by the presence of simple elements such as lines and squares which are presented with primary colours. This concept of order and clarity derives from the philosophical thoughts of the period. The neoplastic movement does not last for a long period and among the topics of contemporary art it is one that is not studied in depth. It is often and wrongly considered as a difficult or purely decorative genre by the majority of the viewers who do not take into consideration the work of artists who apply the definition of a language that, free from the label of the contents common to all arts, is resolved in a pure visual balance, able to affect positively the social life. Art is seen in accordance with the artist’s intention. The shape is considered the result of the encounter between man and the world, in a cohabitation between visible truth and hidden truth. The last one being seen as a denial of the truth and abstracted from it. The fundamental characteristics of the geometric abstractionism can be summarised in the following few rules: Abolition of the third dimension; Independence from the emotional values. The expressive means are line and colour; The ideal shapes are rectangle or square, because in these is a straight line without the ambiguity of the curve; Use of primary colours: yellow, blue, red. Maurizio Galasso’s technique presents all of these elements with one very important variation: the hidden reality and the third dimension magically appear at the appropriate distance. The fusion of the colours and the squares, one double (or multiple) the quantity of the other, give origin to that image so deeply searched by the artist and hidden at the same time. The fragmentation of the truth, the search of perfection through the use of the symbol of the square, penetrates in the essence of things, reconstructing its cellular, molecular composition, almost as wanting to praise the value and the sacrality of life. Maurizio Galasso was born in Avellino on 15/11/1963 and since young, at the beginnig of its painting activity, after developing his style, has always preferred figurative art and landscapes. Currently, after a long period of precious reflections, he has gathered meaning and precision of his work and has developed new ideas with regards to the construction of the image. In his work beside the figurative aspect, a fundamental role is played by the study and combination of colours, made of small checks of which one is double the other, others are quadruple and so on. A search to reach that interior balance given by alterning the colours with the perfect shape: the square. A path difficult and a real challenge in order to create a new art capable to create a link between the old figurative to the geometric abstractism. His work observed closely looks like an abstract square, without prospective nor depth, with nothing that comes near to being real; only in the distance we can appreciate the fusion of colours and the presence on canvas of one clear image. In his career he has taken part to various shows, personal and collective and he works with several art galleries. He has participated to many national painting competitions, where he has always been noted, receiving often praise and prizes. Very important is also his positive teaching experience at the association “Friends of the art” of Coccaglio in Brescia. He received mentions in the “Style art”, the “newspaper of Brescia”, the “Brescia Today” and other magazines.
