Artist's Statement -M. Billings Artist’s Statement The figure is emerging, retreating and being manipulated through its space to create a visual representation of how the emotions materialize both mentally and physically. This body of work started because I needed a release of childhood fears, my mother’s voice, and my illness, fear of my body and sensuality, and my anger. The motivation for the images moves back and forth from my own experiences to the experiences of any woman’s path through our society. I am exploring women’s inherent strength and resilience in vulnerability.
