Artist's Statement -The landscape I live in is the landscape of ripped drawings, of paint all over the place, of pencil sketches and drawings that have been compiled, images that have been thought about and turned and twisted.

Biography - Condo studied art history and music theory at the University of Lowell in Lowell, Massachusetts. His works first appeared in exhibitions in New York City in 1981 and his first solo exhibition was in Los Angeles in 1983. Condo has exhibited extensively in both the United States and in Europe with museum shows at the Whitney Museum of American Art; the Museum of Modern Art; the Contemporary Arts Museum, Houston, Texas; Museo de Arte Contemporaneo de Monterrey, Mexico; Musée d’Art Moderne et d’Art Contemporain, Nice, France; Staatliche Kunsthalle Baden-Baden, Germany; Bonnefantenmuseum, the Netherlands; and the Irish Museum of Modern Art, Dublin. His work is in the permanent collection of the Museum of Modern Art; the Whitney Museum of American Art; the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum; Albright-Knox Art Gallery; Fonds national d’art contemporain, Ministère de la Culture, Paris; Museu d’Art Contemporani, Barcelona; the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston; and the Norton Museum of Art, Palm Beach. Condo has had solo exhibitions at Luhring Augustine, Barbara Gladstone Gallery and PaceWildenstein in New York; Galerie Bruno Bischofberger and de Pury & Luxembourg in Zurich; Galerie Jérôme de Noirmont in Paris; and Monika Sprüth Gallery in Cologne. He received an Academy Award from the American Academy of Arts and Letters in 1999. Recent publications include The Imaginary Portraits of George Condo (Powerhouse) and the soon to be published book on his sculpture written by Dr. Thomas Kellein, Director of the Bielefeld Kunsthalle Museum in Germany. Condo is the subject of a documentary film entitled Condo Painting by director John McNaughton (USA Films, 2000). He has lectured at Columbia University and at the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, and took part in panel discussions at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art and the Guggenheim in New York. He is represented in New York City by Luhring Augustine.
