Mediums - painting and mixed media

Artist's Statement - My current work is abstract using acrylic paint in combination with other media on canvas. I enjoy the mix of color, texture, and line leading the viewer around the image. I start with a loose plan and allow the image to develop through intuition. Each section of the canvas must be interesting and pleasing to my eye. I work to acheive an organic quality and a physicality through color and texture. A surface history is built through reworking sections and adding new elements always leaving a trace of what came before. As in life, we evolve through our experimentation, decisions, and loves, my work preserves what is pleasing to the eye and builds on experiences. I like my images to speak to viewers in their own voice, leaving them free to see whatever is meaningful and personal.

Biography - Mary Fiore earned a Master's Degree in Interdisciplinary Studies in Art through Virginia Commonwealth University's School of the Arts in painting and computers and the arts in 2003. She teaches a graduate art course in digital photography and imaging through their department. She has been able to use her knowledge of technology to assist artists in traditional disciplines to use technology as a tool to further their work.
