Artist's Statement -A musician performs, we hear music, and we feel something. It's convincing and we forget about how it's produced. The notes disappear and a story is told.
Musicians use skill, memory, tricks and everything they have ever known, to perform - making notes come to life. This comes from decades of study and practice, along with a burning desire, natural talent and luck. These qualities make up a musician's potential to give a performance.
A musician interprets a score - I interpret the musician's potential. Potential because the realization of potential is the performance, which the musician has to do. I want to convey the qualities that a musician has to be able to perform.
You can hear AND see a musician's talent, determination and confidence. I hope to capture these qualities, the essence of a musician, in my photographs. - Mike
