Artist's Statement -My recent paintings consist of two bodies of work. First are the pieces that explore everyday life and the greater concepts of existence, death and possible rebirth.
Making references to art history and adding my own twist to belief systems, I place animals, most often dogs, metaphorically in the roles of man. Facing perils that are not always obvious on first glance, my subjects fall, fight, love, live and die in a make believe world. Many pieces, including other works in this series where I choose not to use animals as stand-ins, employ the use of the diptych or more panels to convey a storyline or suggest a dual reading to the image. Titles play an important part in the intended, or unintended, understanding of the narrative taking place. Iâm interested in what meaning the viewer projects onto the images from their own life experience. One person sees them differently than another. There are no wrong answers.
