Mediums - oil paint, gouache, pastel & pencil, collage and solar etching

Artist's Statement -Somewhere between abstraction and non-objective imagery, my art deals with human scale and a sense of place. I am interested in the tension created by combinations such as menacing and inviting, inside and outside, the personal and the collective, the measurable and the infinite. I utilize both a control of the medium and an allowance for the accidental. Shifts of the image occur while I work and become part of the finished piece. The work reflects the uneasy relationship between random acts and carefully planned decisions. My art is influenced by architecture and photography. There are hints of landscape and astronomy in the work, although I try to keep things as non-referential as possible. The surface is as important to me as the imagery and I work with these two elements, the physical properties of the material and the metaphorical content of the image, in every piece.
