Kathryn Hegarty at The American Center for Artists

"Katie" to family and friends, was born in Valentine, Nebraska, U.S.A. on March 28th 1982. Kathryn's family moved to California when she was young because her father got transfered there. "My mom grew up in the Los Angeles area and my dad grew up in the Bay Area, so when we moved back to California from Nebraska, I think we all knew we were home". Kathryn had never painted before, but she felt connected to it from the start. She picked up her first paintbrush at age 19 and when she did decide to paint for the very first time, it amazed her and everyone around her. "I came home from school one day telling my mom that I wanted to paint" Kathryn says, a smile brightening her face. "My mom, I think, thought I was crazy. She kept asking me if I wanted to take a class in it before I bought all the supplies. I said, "No, I'm just going to try it and see what happens". What happened was absolutely divine.
