John Dempsey Iv at The American Center for Artists

John T. Dempsey’s pop/cubism oil paintings combine bold design, hard edges and vivid colors with subjects that are meant to compete for the viewer’s eye against modern commercial images. Partly commentaries on today’s image-bombarding culture, his paintings explore the relationship between the artist’s message and the society in which it is received.

Biography:

Born and raised in the Chicago area, Dempsey won Honor and Purchase Awards at the Illinois Art Competition in 1984 while attending Loyola Academy in Wilmette, Illinois. He studied art under Dane Loomis at Ohio University where he began to develop his pop/cubism art style. Dempsey’s career as an advertising art director and creative director shaped the subjects of his later efforts.
